About Me
My name is Néstor Rodan.
I’m a photographer.
Over two decades ago, I began my journey behind a television camera. That was my first encounter with visual storytelling—the power of conveying emotion and meaning through light, framing, and time. Since then, the journey has evolved.
Today, with a backpack full of gear, I guide others on photographic expeditions through some of the most extreme and extraordinary corners of the planet. I work in the cold, at altitude, in deserts, mountains, and along remote coastlines—anywhere beauty can be revealed through an attentive gaze.
I care as much about composition as I do about experience; as much about detail as about context. Every expedition is built on experience and respect—for the light, the place, and the group. My role as a guide is not only technical, but also human and sensorial: to help others see, interpret, and find their own visual language.
As part of my ongoing involvement in the photographic world, I also serve as an international judge for several competitions, including Black & White Photo Awards, Nature Photo Awards, and The Photo Week.
Beyond cameras, I use drones as a primary tool to explore new perspectives, expand visual language, and show the world from places few ever see. This aerial vision is also central to the technical work I carry out for National Parks, where precision, sensitivity, and deep environmental knowledge are essential.
One of my published works is a book dedicated to Timanfaya National Park—an immersive visual exploration of one of Spain’s most otherworldly volcanic landscapes.
I am a Canon Pro Master in Spain and collaborate with several leading photography brands—always from real-world field experience and with a philosophy grounded in authenticity, respect for nature, and the value of what we live through the lens.

My Gear
I work with Canon full-frame cameras, specifically two EOS R5 Mark II bodies. With them, I can confidently handle any photographic situation—from fast-moving scenes to highly detailed landscapes.
Recently, I’ve added Benro tripods and heads to my workflow. They provide stability and precision, even in the most demanding conditions. The brand offers a wide range of solutions, from classic ball heads to gimbal systems and fully motorized mounts for remote control and complex movement.
For aerial work, I use the DJI Mavic 4 Pro. Its one-inch sensor delivers significantly higher image quality compared to more compact drone models.
When it comes to lenses, I favor fast, bright glass with apertures of f/2.8 or wider. My regular setup includes the Canon RF 15-35mm, RF 24-70mm, and RF 70-200mm zooms, along with prime lenses such as the RF 35mm, RF 100mm, and the versatile RF 100-500mm.
SanDisk
After testing numerous brands, I’ve chosen to work with SanDisk’s Extreme series—proven to be reliable even in the most demanding conditions.
I use these memory cards in both my cameras and drone, where writing speed and stability are critical.
For external storage, I rely on SanDisk’s latest SSD drives. Their fast read speeds, compact size, and lack of moving parts make them an efficient, lightweight, and durable solution for daily fieldwork.
I’ve also started using the new microSD Express and CFexpress cards, which represent a major step forward in speed, security, and performance. SanDisk continues to innovate in data storage, offering solutions tailored for those of us who work in the field, in real-world conditions, without room for error.
The Heat Company
I discovered this glove brand during one of my trips to Lake Baikal, and since then, they’ve become an essential part of my gear in extreme cold.
Their products stand out for their outstanding quality and a three-layer system that adapts to changing weather conditions—allowing full control and sensitivity even in freezing temperatures.
They also offer a complete range of thermal warmers, which have saved me more than once from dangerous cold exposure.
I currently collaborate with them on expeditions to frigid environments. If you’d like to try their gear, you’ll find a discount code on my social media channels.
